The new luxury department store is scheduled to open on 1st October 2016, after 7 years of restoration works of the historical building Fondaco dei Tedeschi. It will feature the best Italian brands and a rich events calendar
Fondaco dei Tedeschi, or Fontego
Located on the Grand Canal, next to the Rialto Bridge, the building is known by Italians with the name of Fondaco dei Tedeschi, Fontego dei Tedeschi for locals, and it has a rich, storied past. First constructed in 1228, it survived fires and wars, the arrival of Napoleon and Mussolini, until our days, when architects from OMA studio have signed the project for a substantial refurbishment.
A High-End Department Store
This national heritage will host the new department store T-Fondaco, whose retail concept is by London-based Jamie Fobert Architects.
Both locals and international travelers will be welcomed by the 500 professional staff members to the 7,000 square-meter department store, that will offer the best in leading Italian and International brands and also the highest level of handcrafted products made by Venetian master artisans. A new service of simplified tax refund system at the cash desk will be offered in partnership with Premier Tax Free.
The new must-visit destination, whose renovated courtyard and panoramic rooftop (360 degrees view, see the photo gallery!) are ready to host not only boutiques but also a rich calendar of cultural events, such as art exhibitions, is ready to reactivate the historic Venetian connection between culture and commerce.
