The Elixir of carnival
L’Elisir d’Amore’ (The Elixir of Love) is a comic opera by Donizetti. It features a score packed with charming melodies that highlight the story of Nemorino, a poor peasant who is in love with Adina, a beautiful landowner, who tortures him with her indifference, until Dr. Dulcamara, a travelling salesman, sells him a fake love potion. The most famous arias are the chorus ‘Cantiamo, facciam brindisi’, the Adina-Dulcamara duet ‘Quanto amore’ and ‘Una furtiva lagrima’, the famous, mellifluous ballad sung by Nemorino. During Carnival, on Thursday 20 February at 7pm and on Sunday 23 February at 5pm, the opera will be followed by a cocktail and DJ-set at the Sale Apollinee: masks are welcome!
