About

The call of the primitive

Peggy Guggenheim has gone down in history for challenging boundaries as a collector and patron. She is celebrated for her groundbreaking collection of European and American modern art. Guggenheim turned to the arts of Africa, Oceania and the indigenous cultures of America in the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition features 35 works of ‘non-Western’ art, on display for the first time at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, revealing a part of the patron’s collection that has rarely been seen by the public.
