Until 6 January 2019
“Cows by the Water” is is the personal exhibition that Palazzo Grassi, a magnificent palace located in the sestiere of San Marco, dedicates to German contemporary artist Albert Oehlen. The show exhibits almost 100 works by the artist, following his career from the 1980s to the present day. All of the art pieces belong to the Pinault Collection and to international museum and private collections.
“Cows by the Water” follows Oehlen’s thematic path, highlighting the crucial role played by music and rhythm in his philosophy. Pictorial signs are deeply shaped by improvisation, harmony, and repetition turning his art into a symphony. Inaugurated in 2006, Palazzo Grassi was renovated by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and it shares with the public the extraordinary Pinault Collection together with Punta della Dogana, another space dedicated to contemporary art and located in the sestiere of Dorsoduro. On the occasion of the exhibition, the Skateroom presents limited editions of skateboards designed by Oehlen as well as “Cofftea/Kafftee”: a special project by the artist specifically conceived for the palace’s atrium.
