City of Venice - Different Areas

The city of Venice is home to different locations suitable for hosting any kind of events. Six are the main districts in town, each of which is characterized by a unique history and a different atmosphere. The most famous is perhaps sestiere San Marco…

Various districts

Lido of Venice and Other Islands

Measuring less than 200m in depth in certain areas, the Lido of Venice (meaning ‘The beach of Venice’ in Italian) is a 12 km stretch of sand located between the Lagoon and the open sea, connected to the city of Venice by vaporettoes and ferries. The Lido is a hot venue for those visiting Venice and gets particularly crowded between the end of August and mid-September: this area is indeed the heart of Venice Film Festival, one of the most well-known events in the movie industry in the world.

City of Venice - Sestiere Santa Croce

Being the only sestiere featuring car connections with mainland, the locations home to special events and exhibition can be reached almost with any means of transport both by road and by water. Hot venues in the district include: Ca’ Pesaro (home to the Gallery of Modern Art and to the Museum of Oriental Art), Fontego dei Turchi (home to Natural Art Museum), Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Palazzo Mocenigo (home to the Museum of Costume and Perfume).

Venice Islands

Although the whole of Venice lies on an archipelago, an ‘excursion to the islands’ generally means a half-day cruise on a boat to visit the islands of Murano, Torcello and Burano, three charming, small islands, rich in history and tradition.
